The Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CDMA) was created in 1995 to provide a forum of debate to exchangeexperiences among the Defense Ministers of the Hemisphere. The first CDMA was attended by 34 countries:Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kittsand Nevis, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Uruguay seeks to consolidate agenda of the Tenth Conference of Defense Ministers
This afternoon in Montevideo outlined the agenda of issues to be addressed at the Tenth Conference of Defense Ministers, including the conceptualization of security and defense issues, peacekeeping, effective defense of the American system and new security threats and defense in America. Since its creation at Williamsburg in 1995, the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas’ purpose has been to establish a forum to debate themes such as confidence building measures, security, peace keeping operations, civil-military relations and emerging threats.
Thirty four Western Hemisphere Member States’ Ministers of Defense participate in the biennial Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas. The first conference was held in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1995. Since then, seven more conferences have taken place. Authorities of the pro-tempore Secretariat of the X CMDA.
